I call this my ‘Type A’ Morning Smoothie for good reason. I’ve never, ever, been more lucid, more productive, more energetic, more freakin’ awesome since I started eating this smoothie every other morning.
First, it is super easy on the digestive system, especially after a good probiotic is thirty minutes into my gut 🙂 I will talk about probiotics another time, but for now, just know they are critical for good overall gut health.
Second, forget your morning cup o’ joe. Seriously, after this, you will not need it. The boost from the carob, coconut milk, and chia and hemp seeds will be enough to keep you productive and efficient, at least until mid-afternoon (especially if you keep your lunch high in protein and veggies).
I know you’re dyin’ to know, so here it is:
I use a Ninja. My husband is over it, but I just love how easy it is to use and clean. The blades separate, which is great, so you can save yourself from having to wash a bowl and eat your smoothie right out of the cup you blend it in.
Ok, enough yip-yappin’…
1 heaping scoop of pure bone broth protein powder (I don’t use this every day, but when I do, va-va-va-voom! My favorite brand is Dr. Axe Ancient Nutrition Pure.)
1 Tbsp raw organic carob powder (I LOVE Sunfood Superfoods brand.)
2 Tbsp organic chia seeds (Bob’s Red Mill is my fave.)
3 Tbsp raw organic hemp hearts
1/4 organic avocado
1/4 cup organic coconut milk
1 small or 1/2 large banana
1 Tbsp pure organic almond butter (Woodstock is pricey, but it’s my fave. It is literally just 100% almonds.)
1/4 cup of unsweetened almond or coconut milk (liquid, from a container — ya can’t go wrong with Califia Farms)
1 pinch of cinnamon
*Feel free to switch up ingredients on a regular, as long as you’re getting enough protein and healthy fat.
My smoothie ends up super thick, which I don’t mind, because I feel it is more fulfilling when I eat it with a spoon. You can adjust the amounts of dry versus wet ingredients to get a more liquid consistency. It really comes down to personal preference.
