For the last two and the next four weeks, Pete and Maura Kennedy will teach me, along with seven other Gilda’s Club NYC members, to write songs and play guitar as part of The John Lennon Real Love Project.
The Kennedys are not only super generous folks, but they are established and successful musicians who’ve been together—musically and romantically—for over twenty years.
We even got to meet and chat with Joe Raiola, the heart (and brains) behind the project.
So far, it’s been a whole lotta fun working in a group led by such talented artists. And you’d be surprised at the amazing things that happen when you’re encouraged to tap into your creative self—things you may never have thought possible take shape right before your eyes, setting a solid foundation for confidence and self-love.
As many of you know, my craving to play an instrument was somewhat satisfied when I began taking drum lessons as an adult in 2006. This program nurtures my inner musician, brings me closer to my creativity, all while encouraging me to work with other creatives as part of a team. Pretty remarkable stuff.
If you or someone you know is battling cancer, or taking care of someone who is, please check out Gilda’s Club. Gilda’s offers support groups, healthy lifestyle workshops, educational lectures, and yoga classes to the cancer community absolutely free of charge. It is truly outstanding.
A giant THANK YOU to Gilda’s Club NYC for making this journey that much more tolerable, fun, and interesting for all of us!
